Through hardship to the stars

George Romero saw in his youth, probably a lot of films about zombies. He liked all this and had a desire to make his own movie about the devourers of the flesh. He did not hesitate and took off his masterpiece. With a budget of $ 114,000, the film collected $ 12,000,000 in the US, and it was this that made Romero understand that everything was just beginning. Then George waited world glory, the recognition of all lovers of horror, both modern and old.

This film begins to touch from the first minute only one presence of a black actor in the title role, and in fact in those not so remote times, black was rarely taken to secondary, and that to the main - it was a shame and a shame for the director. But Romero would not be Romero, if he did not do what he does always. I spat on the orders, canons and fashion. He created something that has not been done in cinema for a long time. I shot a black and white film. No studio wanted to distribute this film, only Columbia was rushing around the picture, but it did not suit her much either. And they can be easily understood. Who in those days needed a black and white film with a Negro in the title role, and even with a tragic finale? But Romero did not give up and the film was released in the rental. And now I do not remember, it seems to be Columbia Pictures, and it seems like not her. But all this is not important.

After all, first of all the film attracts with its slowness, because modern films about zombies are running around, fights, heads from the shoulders, bodies to parts, obscene language. In this film, it was all in moderation, but when you see it, you enjoy the moment. On the actor's game and say nothing. All played perfectly, but most of all, of course, Dwayne Jones, the theater actor and just a master of his craft.

You can endlessly sing this praise to this film, but I think it's necessary to say one thing. George Romero took off his debut and conquered all. His name will never leave the history of cinema. Later he will remove many more films about the living dead and they will all be masterpiece in their mastery, but they will never compare with this picture. Sincerely and with all my heart I wish good luck to the master of horrors George Romero, let him not grow old and continues to please us with his wonderful films.
