Not for today's viewer

In 1968, George Romero made a film, which later became the classic of the genre. "Night of the Living Dead" cost only 114 thousand dollars, but taking into account the reissue in 1990, brought more than 16 million. It is noteworthy that the picture was originally black and white. Today, the viewer can hardly appreciate her. Filled with computer special effects worth tens of millions of dollars, he no longer looks at the actors' game or the work of make-up artists.

It is believed that "Night of the Living Dead" became the first horror film with a sci-fi background. In the future, it will spawn a lot of clones, and in 1985, the first parody will be released, fully dedicated to him and "Dawn of the Dead" Romero (1978) - "Return of the Living Dead", which gave a direct reference to the film Romero. In 2006, the first remake of the movie "Night of the Living Dead 3D" was released. In 2011, a new remake of "Night of the Living Dead: The Beginning" is expected. In addition to clones and parodies, there are also films related to the original Romero painting only with the title and the general idea - "Night of the Living Dead: The Chronicles of the Survivors" (2005), "Paris: Night of the Living Dead" (2009).

"Night of the Living Dead" Romero was preceded by many low-budget paintings of the 50s - early 60s of the last century, anti-utopias in a plot similar to the creation of Romero. In total George Romero took four pictures in the epic about the zombie - a term, by the way, never used in the original picture. The last film, Land of the Dead, was released in 2005. It is noteworthy that the first four films Romero filmed in Pittsburgh, and the last - in Canada, to at least a little save. The last film cost 180 times more than the 1968 picture.

Today, "Night of the Living Dead" is considered a classic of the genre, and a certain standard to which creators of zombies and other undead should strive. Nevertheless, the picture has significant flaws. For example, when the first zombie (for the sake of convenience we will call the living dead that way), which one of the heroines meets, kills her brother, she escapes from him, and he runs after her. Minutes through forty screen time, authorities will report that zombies can not run! And really - we will never see a zombie in the frame again. The same zombie that killed Brother Barbara for some reason did not eat it, but immediately chased after Barbara. Why? A big fan of "strawberries"?

In general, the film is only of historical interest. The lack of special effects, film-balls and stupid cues of movie heroes would have sent Night of the Living Dead to the ranks of third-rate films.
