The trilogy of George Romero. Part 1-Night
This movie has two versions: original black and white and color. I watched both versions. Determine what I better I can not. Most likely the original. The black and white version looks like old classic horror films. For example, "Dracula" in 1931 or "Plan 9 from outer space" in 1959. The color version looks a little different. Colors in the painted version are faded and unnatural. But it looks good too. Both versions have their pluses. Some frames look good in the black and white version, in most cases because of the lighting. And some episodes are more interesting to watch in the color version. For example, blood and the like, although the same looks good on black and white photography.
This is a low-budget movie. And having looked, this film I am once again convinced that they take real masterpieces for small money. And there are many such masterpieces, especially in the horror genre. After all, it does not matter how much money the movie was shot, the main skill of the crew, especially the director and actors. In this film, there is both.
George Romero did a really great job on this film. There have been films about living dead before, but this movie can not be called the ancestor of the subgenre of horrors. I would even say it is not possible, but it is necessary. After all, before this film there were no pictures about the dead so bright and thoughtful than this one. And of course after the release of this picture began to shoot more and more films about zombies with a similar development of the plot. The atmosphere of this film is simply gorgeous. It resembles horror movies of the 50s of last century. The film is interesting to watch, it draws the viewer into the maelstrom of events from the first minutes and releases only when the film is completely over, even when the final credits are on, to watch the film interestingly and even scary. But the film is interesting to watch not only because of the dead, but also because of the survival of a certain number of people in extreme conditions. Seven people, including a sick little girl, disappeared into the house and boarded all the windows and doors. But there were some social problems. Someone thinks that it is better to hide in the cellar, and someone considers the cellar a deadly trap and prefers to stay at the top. Well, the end of the film is just gorgeous.
Apart from all this, the film has an excellent camera work. The picture is not boring and is very interesting. I liked the doubles with a close-up, where you can see one person. And the camera is set lower and rises up, as if looking the character in the chin. Such duplicates frighten the picture.
Even the director's skill would not save the film if the actors played badly. But fortunately, the actors played perfectly. The actors performed their roles naturally. The dead are represented as ordinary people, only a little made-up, and of course they can barely drag their feet when they walk. The music in the film is great. It perfectly suits the picture and well complements the atmosphere.
In general, a good movie, a classic horror genre and World cinema in general. What more i can say? There's nothing to complain about, so I do not overestimate the assessment.
