"The living Dead. Start".
The first film of George A. Romero and one of the first and classic films about zombies, it is in the understanding that the revived dead man eating live flesh. Filmed almost for pennies and in order to save on black and white film, it nevertheless creates an atmosphere of horror and despair, shocking naturalistic details better than many modern and more expensive handicrafts.
But this visual, atmospheric part is just some tip of the iceberg. After all, the film, among other things, about people, about behavior in extreme situations. When you're cornered, your dead relatives and friends rebel from the graves and attack, then it's hard not to panic, it's hard to think about your actions. And when the group gathers people, then mass chaos begins, panic and crowd operates according to the rash order of one, etc. And the most terrible villain, monster and beast for a person becomes a person who can betray and substitute, hide and sit out, act in a snoop , in contrast to the instinctively and rectilinearly acting zombies.
In addition to the ideas and the visual part, there are notable works in the film, among which the role of African American Duane Jones in the foreground is unusual for those times. The rest of the actor's work is quite worthy, although a bit theatrical.
And in general, the progenitor of the genre is worthy of viewing even now. It looks with interest, tightens during the viewing, immerses in an atmosphere of horror not so much from the blood and other details, although they are lacking, as from the uncertainty and despair. Also has other pluses: social, human ideas, quite worthy actor's works and musical accompaniment. And still very modest timing and stressing despair, slightly shocking ending "Come on Vince, shoot him between the eyes."
