More than alive

So I finally watched this cult movie. Strangely, I did not do this before, zombies are very sympathetic to me, and George Andrew Romero's work also likes me (although so far I've only seen "Diaries of the Dead" which I really liked), but somehow it did not work out. I watched it in color, although closer to the end of the review I thought out that I can only change the player's settings a little and make the screen black and white. Although a good movie color will not spoil.

Since the film was shot already in 1968 with a miserly budget, this imposes a certain imprint. And, oddly enough, the imprint is positive. A huge number of blunders (for example, a very strange change of time of day) and obvious savings on everything give the film a kind of charm and charm. It's funny to find blunders and discrepancies. Although it is still very clear that the director treats with love to his offspring, not that in today's horror stories, which are mostly taken for the sake of the bubble. Yes, and for the debut (and even more so, given that the director at that time was only 28 years old), he is very good.

The plot is very simple. Several people, for various reasons, are in the same house near the cemetery. And the living dead are to blame for this, in the common people they are zombies (although in the film this word does not sound). There are a lot of films with a similar plot, but this one is one of the first. Subject zombies at that time was quite developed, that's only this is the first film where they became independent, and did not obey the magic of Voodoo. Yes, besides, it's a classic, but it's better to talk about it well or not at all.

So, despite the obvious plot simplicity, it's quite interesting to watch everything that is happening and it's not boring at all. We have a great mixture of horror, psychological thriller and even social drama. To this day it seems rather terrible, tense and not devoid of meaning. After all, if you look carefully, the film is not about walking corpses, but about people who over the years have become reminiscent of those walking corpses. After all, zombies here are a reflection of consumer society, the meaning of existence of which consists only in the fleshly desire to eat.

Well, a little should be written about everything else. Acting is pretty good, most liked Dwayne Jones, and for some reason I remember very much the first zombie performed by William Hinzman (incidentally, in 1988 he would withdraw his version of this film with the name "Devourer of Flesh"). The soundtrack is normal, it does not distract, but it is not remembered. I did not notice any cruelty, so if you do not like meat, then you can safely watch it. And he also has a great atmosphere, after watching, there is a long aftertaste.

Conclusion: ageless classics, which now looks relevant. In addition, there is over, than to think. To look necessarily!
