The first, a massive invasion of zombies.
George Romero, now a cult master of zombie horror, began his work with a very dubious project, many times changing its name and script. But who would have thought that a film with such an unobtrusive budget would be able to collect a "round" cash register, and moreover, to establish a new genre that until then had not been fully known to the public. The picture of Romero in the root has understood the habitual way of the then spectator the way of films about zombies, and as has managed to set a new concept of this kind of horror. Now the living dead have real, rather than mystical voodoo-origin and have a really depressing ability to infect live people, eating them, thereby constantly increasing the zone of their distribution throughout the country.
The film has a rather powerful psychological pressure on the viewer, focusing his attention primarily on the characters of the picture, who were in a desperate situation. The original Romerian idea for those times to show, though not carefully opened images of heroes, as well as their spiritual state under extreme conditions, is looked and perceived by the public with enormous interest, which is the reason for the success of "Night of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead". The spectator, already tired of the rather monotonous and boring actions of various films, wanted to see something new, not ordinary, but to some extent brutal, in a certain way, Romero managed to give it with all the thoroughness and skill of approach to the production of the picture.
Associating his film with the world's level of violence, the director presented the spectator with a very intense and dynamic horror action, which in terms of its rather high-quality directing practically does not concede to the following pictures about zombies. Romero, relying only on one location, that is, on the house where the heroes were battling, managed to recreate a literate plot that does not almost tire the viewer while watching the film, but only adds more originality to the whole idea. Moreover, the aforementioned scenario move: the action in one location, was widely used and was used in many other zombie-movers that came out later. Anticipating the development of the genre, the director did not disdain to add the picture of brutality, which in many respects caused difficulties with the rental of the film. The level of violence taking place in the film does not naturally make a special impression on the modern spectator, but nevertheless the bloody scenes look more than acceptable even at the present time, the spectator will see cannibalism, and the intestines extracted from the person, and other massacres.
The heroes of the film were the most ordinary and typical. None of them has any original charisma, so there is no memory left. On the other hand, it is not a bad thing to show perfectly ordinary people and their relationship in an extreme situation. Thanks to the rather not bad acting game, which is not anything significant, their not intricate images are generally not badly disclosed: here the viewer will see his father trying to protect his family, and so unleashed a senseless argument that caused his conflict with the most positive character of the picture : a kind of black Ben in the performance of a novice actor Dwayne Jones, the other characters turned out to be completely dull and typical, in consequence of which the creative task for the actors who played them was simple. As for the soundtrack of the film, in the creation of which many composers took part, it turned out to be quite tense and beautiful.
Romero completed his film the way it was necessary to do it, and this strengthened the already tense and hopeless atmosphere of the picture. Not the official rule of having a "happy end", established in American cinema of the time, was violently violated, because this is the way to achieve the ideal concept of a real, eerie zombie-movie. The director at the proper level was able to unfold all the chaos and horror that reigns in the film, the cause of which is a zombie infection.
The result: uniquely the film - a masterpiece, he made a huge contribution to the development of horror, and in particular asked the concept of zombie-movi.
