I will fly - I will enslave!
The plot is based on one of the hypotheses explaining the origin and development of man as a species, with the help of an alien mind. The most interesting thing is that we are not talking about the Earth at all, but about a completely different planet, located near the devil on the kulichka. But a similar assumption can be applied to our "ball". By the way, there is some incident: at the beginning of the film, we are shown that a primitive society of people already existed on Earth before the arrival of the stranger, but the stranger himself speaks in the spirit of T. Bulba: "I gave birth to you, I will kill you." Perhaps the whole thing in an incorrect translation. In order to avoid inconsistencies in the plot, the screenwriter and director brought the alien mind to humanity, giving it characteristic disadvantages: aggression, totalitarian control, lust for power, parasitism. The result was a lonely cosmic feudal lord who enslaved underdeveloped humans in order to mine the minerals so necessary to maintain the health of his lightest person. In general, the hypothesis has the right to exist until it is refuted by the facts. According to people, there are comments: the decision to travel through the portal was too fast, and, considering the small number of the detachment and the presence of a talented, though, only one scientist turns this venture into an adventure. By the way, if on the Earth, wires for launch are clearly attached to the gates of the portal, how were the chief heroes going to start (and started the same!) In a deaf stone bag on that side?
Actors. The soldiers seemed to me too stupid for such a mission. Of all the fighters, for some reason, panicking on another planet (due to the inability to quickly return home), only K. Russell stands out for his calm. In the story, of course, he has nothing to lose, but, well, that he is in his place, and you can not worry about him. Botany, too, believe, although the idea of contact at the level of chocolate bars looks silly. The aborigines (children) are ridiculous, and one, with the face of a degenerate, is completely dirty of laughter. True, by the end of the film, they look different: they seem to have evolved several generations ahead in a couple of minutes. Even the talk has become quite tolerable. But most of all I remember the god Amon-Ra. Blown away from him something bad throughout the film. Funny is his desire to resurrect a dead nerd, that he himself would execute his companions in front of the slaves. Whether he himself such a pervert, or from people picked up.
Music. The main theme is recognized, but not finalized, but the scene accompaniment is well done.
Special effects The style of ancient Egypt in the form of guards in the guise of Anubis and Gore, various futuristic stone - machine devices with hieroglyphs, pyramids (even the flagship of the newcomer in the form of a pyramid) is a true decoration of the film. There is even a teleport in the picture. Liked themselves gates, opening in the form of watery jelly. Alien animal is one - but what an unusual! Of the minuses: poorly traced objects in the background and dense sandstorms in an attempt to close the flaws and the small scale of the scenery. In principle, the "narrowness of the world" in the frame is in a sense a characteristic feature in the space science fiction of R. Emmerich.
Conclusion: a worthy place in the pantheon of screened scientific hypotheses.
