Typical overpriced fake
If you do not say that the film is just boring and not fascinating, then we can say that he, having stupefied by his pretentiousness, could not cope even with his vulgar task, obsessively passing through the red thread. There is an idea in the film - a cool idea, but there is, and this is even a problem, about which later - clothed more likely in a holey plot, but not in a sane script and plot.
The exhaust of Richard Kelly, who specialized in creative waste, repeats the same mistake that many cult vysery of the time, which I called the "brightly sensitive period of mediocrity syndrome and bad cinema in the cinema." If the plot, by definition, is wider than what it includes, the creators of Donnie Darko, instead of the film, remove the idea for hipsters, spitting on the subtleties of the script and narrative, leaving a lot of gaps in the narrative, and especially in terms of chronology and facts, and the stylistic basis has nothing to do with it. The script is simply emasculated: the dialogues are nauseous, pathetic, trivial and merge into the mess of hackneyed truths and senseless lyrics, not sparing the timing; thanks to an ill-conceived plan, unsuccessful staging and installation, what is happening does not fit into some fancy canvas with completed designs of the work, as Lynch’s works succeeded in, and is coquettishly lost in its own threads of chaotic logic, causing more irritation and boredom than questions, and only to the supposedly unexpected ending with the cliché of “one soldier in the field” performed by a nondescript hero with a glass look and lack of charisma that does not cause any sympathy and sympathy - she skidly adjusts her mystical Czech RDU in an attempt to replicate the masters.
But an idea, with a grief in half, brought to an end, cannot be the work itself, if the content consists of banal cliches, boring quotes and alogisms. Neither the selection of actors, nor the plot and scenario part, none of this makes this film neither deep nor fascinating. Despite the mediocre editing, Donnie Darko is known for quite nice pieces of monolithic camera work, reflecting images of allegorical ideological expressiveness that allow you not to fall asleep while watching this nudyatiny. But otherwise, the atmosphere is weakly maintained, if at all: the primitive, skinny wall of the sound part is made of the simplest solutions; the film does not cause either feelings of curiosity or anxiety, which is aggravated by the pseudo-filosofsky truism of the keynote from the pathos replicas of not worked heroes. This vanilla hand-made article cannot be compared with such really valuable innovative ribbons as “Jacob's Ladder”, related to the stylistic style of magical realism, because its entire artistic value is wildest exaggerated by marketing, fashion and all sorts of pompous blockheads praising this “ masterpiece ", like some kind of" vanilla sky "and other shit.
In general, if I was wrong, it was still not deep, because the average rating for this film - taking into account some of the advantages of more or less stylish visuals in the plans, albeit with mediocre special effects, is a generous ceiling.
Total: a mediocre, overvalued film supposedly “with meaning” for teenagers and not sold out, rather boring and boring for the film “for the evening”; one-time gum and neutered stylistic parody.
