Ahead of time
Many of us at least once in their childhood wanted to become adults. Trying on the clothes of parents, copying their gestures and making fun of those around them. But with the entry into adolescence, this dream may seem even more attractive, because it is during this period that everyone has to experience the first love and the first disappointment. And the idea to quickly become so fifteen years older begins to seem the perfect solution to all problems.
Director Penny Marshall was not the first, and far from the last, who turned to the subject of turning a child into an adult and vice versa in just one moment. But her efforts were not in vain - this tale with a simple name still became special. The plot takes us to the American suburbs, where ordinary children and the same ordinary parents live. Their problems are no different from ours, because on weekdays they go to school and work, and on weekends they spend time with their families. Only one such family vacation in the amusement park turns into the mysterious disappearance of one child.
“- Dear Mom and Dad, I was allowed to write and tell you that everything is fine with me ... They say that they will let me out of here in a month. In the meantime, it looks great like a summer camp. ”
The main character is a charming boy who decides to try his luck in a moment of weakness. Fate decides to give him a chance to feel like an adult. And here for Josh begins an exciting adventure, at the end of which he will have to make a difficult choice. In the meantime, parents are desperately looking for their missing son, he has nothing to worry about, because as a 30-year-old one can be entertained with even more scope. This character was shown to us by two talented actors who were able to make him a solid, distinctive hero. Young David Moscow played very convincingly and became a loyal assistant for Tom Hanks, who appeared to us as a child in the body of an adult man. For him, it was the first experience of creating such an infantile character, but his brilliant play, smile and gaze make him believe that he is really 13 years old.
“I have rarely met such good people.”
Once in the adult world, Josh was still the same sincere, good child, which was before the transformation. Therefore, it is not surprising that he manages to charm the beautiful Susan, tired of the society of selfish men. Their story is simply amazing - such gentle, dramatic and naive relationships between adults are not often seen in the movies. Elizabeth Perkins and Tom Hanks have become an excellent duet, because their characters are constantly forced to smile.
Among the second-generation heroes, Josh's best friend was very memorable. Billy, played by young Jared Rushton, did everything in his power, and even more, to help the protagonist relive this adventure. Also in the film you can see such wonderful actors as John Hurd and John Lovitz. The first played beautifully a narcissistic careerist who wildly despised such sincere lucky ones as the main character. A second actor remarkably embodied a little strange colleague, who most of the time thinks only about women.
Film for many years now adorns the filmography of everyone who took part in its creation. This story impresses with its simplicity, the play of actors and the charm of the late 80s. It feels like Penny Marshall has put her soul into her creation, trying to make the film as light and kind as possible. Many scenes evoke positive emotions, especially the crazy dance of Hanks and Robert Lodge on the electronic piano. And this story ends exactly as it should have been, showing how important childhood is in our life with all its positive and negative sides.
All stages of life are good if they occur consistently.
