The dominant fabulous director of the Soviet Union, Alexander Rowe, in 1964, added to the number of his successful and largely innovative films, another tale that sunk the viewer into the heart for many long years, remaining a beautiful, attractive, instructive and kind spectacle to this day - This is the film "Frost."
It is quite possible that the first part of the tape will not be boring to watch, the viewer will rather watch this action with a certain perplexity, for, echoing the canons of fairy tales, we are not occupied with the background of the characters for too long, but are immediately "thrown" into the cycle of events. But here's what is just weak in “Frost” - this prehistory is completely here, well, by 80 percent so surely, it is absent. Therefore, with the heroes, with their former life and the causes of their actions, as well as their upbringing, we get to know each other consistently over the course of timekeeping, because it is sometimes difficult to define and sensibly explain certain moments to ourselves. But this is only the first part, where the main actors undergo considerable changes, both physical and mental, giving the story a reversal in a different time interval, which the second part of the movie presents to us. That is, first there is some unfinished acquaintance, why at first the suspicious squint of the viewer's eyes is not able to “peel off” his face, but after that, when all the metamorphoses are done, and the person watching the film in this way will really cling to good, beautiful, selfless and sensible young heroes who were beautifully played by the beautiful Natalya Sedykh (Nastya) and Eduard Zotov (Ivan), the location of the action will change, just as some third-party characters will change, giving a look to a bunch of beautiful images that s not soon forget after viewing. Yes, the second part of the film, namely the one where we are shown the winter in the period of the approaching New Year and Christmas, I consider as the best part of this movie.
Here are not only excellent, characteristic heroes from the side of good and evil - actually Morozko (Alexander Khvylya) and Baba-Yaga (Georgy Milyar), respectively. But also here there is an indescribable atmosphere of something beautiful, magical. I don’t know, but now I’ve started to notice one detail: I don’t think so, but if I were asked if the creators of the screen image of Professor Dumbledore were inspired by JK Rowling in the screen version of the books, I would show them Morozko - kind, memorable the wizard, so dear to the Russian audience, not only because of the manner of speaking, dressing or anything. It by itself means the concept of a broad, kind soul, which outside perfectly borders the image of an old but strong man with a beard to the knee, who lives in the age-old beautiful forest, at the same time giving a holiday to everyone at least once a year. Baba Yaga is this envious creature, which is designated here as the main subject for jokes, and this also makes sense - the little spectator does not see any benefits of evil, why it becomes immediately clear to children what image he should strive for, because to be “lifted” on laughter is definitely not desirable.
And by the way, there will be something to laugh about here: in view of not only funny sounds, but also accepting an accelerated filming, Rowe has made here and there a whole performance of dynamics and action, which at such a fast pace simply cannot help but smile. Alexander generally was a man who liked to experiment with special effects long before the Hollywood "took" this niche - we can see this in almost all of his works, starting with the breakthrough Vasilisa the Beautiful. And here, in Morozko, he sticks to his habit, sometimes giving such wonders to a combination of shooting or the interaction of various perspectives, that today you just wonder, because you understand: all this has been done without using today's fashionable computer equipment.
In general, I am extremely glad that I once again looked at this fairy tale, which is an indicator of the age-old Russian folk instructive history, where there lives good, miracles and faith in the best. Perhaps because of the very similar Russian “spirit” to many Western people, the picture is not clear - it is enough just to read the IMDb reviews on it in order to make sure. But to us what the matter? For Us, this is the most beautiful vision that fills the atmosphere of snow, fast holidays, positive entourage and other things that accompany these New Year's Eve days, when you yourself are willy-nilly waiting for something unusual. Or someone unusual, for example, this Morozko, in whose existence after viewing this picture you are indisputably convinced, because the eternal child inside is just pleased to know that somewhere in the world there is always a good-natured old man who helps the good and punishes the bad, thereby convincing us of one simple and understandable truth: good always triumphs over evil.
