A civilization blown by the wind ...
A masterpiece film, a classic of world cinema, the standard of cinema. The atmosphere of old Hollywood, fascinating viewer. The stunning history of the Old South, has conquered the whole world.
The film, based on the most magnificent book of Margaret Mitchell, is a rare exception when the movie is such an accurate illustration of the book. Such a fit atmosphere, style, spirit!
"I will think about it tomorrow, because tomorrow will be a new day!" (C)
The main character, Scarlett O'Hara, whose evolution of character we are witnessing throughout the film. Flip-flop coquette turned into a strong-willed woman. Temperamental egoistka with a strong grip and quick-witted mind. Infantile and corrupt, it, however, is an example of enterprise and the ability to survive. Full of life and very energetic, Scarlett, like a real Irish, not immediately, but gained love of the land. If, as a sixteen-year-old girl, who thought only of knights and balls, she did not understand her values, then, after going through difficulties, she realized how truthful were the words of her father Gerald:
- Earth is the only thing in the world that has value, because it is the only thing that is forever. The only thing worth working for, worth fighting for ... and dying!
And Scarlett drew strength from the love that came to her. "Sometimes I think that Scarlett is like this giant Antea, who was given strength by touching the mother earth," Rhett noted very precisely.
Scarlett is not perfect at all, with her own drawbacks and merits, she is still very impressive in the eyes of the viewer.
Real lady
Against the background of Scarlett, Melanie, the real heroine of this film, looks very contrast. A true lady: selfless, merciful, very soft and kind, but courageous and resolute. So noble, that is not able to believe in the absence of this quality in others. A diplomatic and compassionate, caring patriot, moderately proud and able to pass all obstacles with her head held high, even in poverty she does not lose the title of "lady", unlike Scarlett, sincerely believing that without money you cannot be a lady. Melanie combines all the positive qualities and is a heroine, which really need to be equal.
"I believe in Rhett Butler and only, the rest is not important." (C)
Rhett Butler, one of the main characters, a vicious cynic who can, however, distinguish real gold from a cheap fake. He who denies the importance of public opinion and "reputation" is not afraid to challenge the prevailing realities of society. Selfish "not a gentleman", who knows the price of high moral qualities. Neglecting the suggested rules, Rhett is guided only by her desires and needs.
“Sir, you are not a gentleman,” Scarlett snapped.
“Very subtle observation,” Rhett remarked cheerfully. - Just like you, miss, not a lady. (C)
Dreams and reality
Ashley Wilkes is a dreamer who is afraid to face reality. A lover of art, he is more likely to dissolve into a fictional world, rather than make a step in real life. Loving to make philosophical conversations and often engaged in introspection, Ashley is melancholic and static. His actions sometimes do not correspond to the words, his dreams go against reality. He seems to love to go with the flow, but reproaches himself for inaction.
gone With the Wind
The drama of the film “Gone with the Wind” unfolds against the backdrop of the US Civil War 1861-1865. We see the way of life of the last days of the Old South: luxury and wealth, stiffness and adherence to traditions. A world where every owner of a giant plantation owns hundreds of slaves, where all the precepts of true ladies and gentlemen are fulfilled like the Ten Commandments. All this is a whole way of life, living the last days. Cotton fields blown by the wind. Rich masters and faithful slaves, carried away by the wind. A whole generation of young people, whose future seemed to be burdened only with the complexity of choosing a dress and ladies, carried away by the wind. The way of life, carried away by the wind. A whole civilization blown by the wind.
“It was a land of horsemen and cotton plantations, and it was called the Old South. In this charming world, gallantry lived out its last days. Only here it was still possible to meet the last knights and their beautiful ladies, the master and the slave.
Now this can only be read in the books, because it is only a dream of memories.
Civilization, carried away by the wind ... "
Masterpiece.
